How the Texas Prompt Payment Act Protects You

Texas Insurance Code 542A holds insurance carriers accountable for unnecessary delays in paying valid property damage claims. If a carrier takes too long to issue payment after receiving all required information, they may owe penalty interest — typically around 18% of the total amount paid. This law applies to already-settled claims — which means there’s no risk of reopening the file or jeopardizing the original payout.
